Hi, my name is Hope. A beekeeping hobby that started in the spring of 2025, and learning how to bake sourdough bread for my family during the winter of 2024 has grown into Lark and Berdie Bee Co. Here in Medford, Massachusetts I care for honey bees, bake bread, and enjoy making pretty things that make everyday life that much sweeter.

While I’m not tending the bees or playing with my dogs, Lark and Berdie, I can be found running, teaching piano, homeschooling my children, gardening, or taking photos for my 15+ year old photography business.

Thank you for your support of small business and the joy of making things by hand!

Did you know?

-A worker honey bee lives for about 6 weeks in the summer. During that time she may visit around 1,500- 2,000 flowers per day and fly hundreds of miles during her lifetime.

-Bees must collect nectar from roughly 2 million flowers to produce one pound of honey.

-Honey bees fly up to 15-20 miles per hour.

-Wax is more valuable than honey. Bees consume roughly 6-8 pounds of honey to produce 1 pound of beeswax, which is why beekeepers treasure drawn comb.

-The queen bee can lay up to 2,000 eggs per day during peak spring buildup.

-A healthy colony may make 60- 100 pounds of surplus honey in a good New England season.

-It takes about 12 honey bees their entire lives to make one teaspoon of honey.
